Other Stuff

A couple of miscellanous things about the SUD will be posted here. Your suggestions, a mailing list of all playes, etc. Heck I might even put in a message board.

Suggestions

The SUD is a growing SUD and it's growing fast. But in order for it to keep growing we need ideas for new rooms, items, abilities etc. Which is where you come in. Tell me what you would like to see and would not like to see in The SUD. Here are a few suggestions for you to comment on:

  • Magic Spells - more fun, but also more work for the player who has to keep track of them.
  • Java Areas - Arcade center where games in java are available. Low bandwidth users might find it slow though.
  • Cinema - Animations and MIDI music rolled into one. Again not too great for the low bandwidth user.
  • Cost of items - Too high, too low?

    Your Very Own Area

That's right, you can get your very own area complete with your very own rooms, NPCs, text graphics, items and lots more. No longer do you have to become an 'immortal' to get this benefit. Anyone can do so, be it the newest newbie or the most experienced veteran. And you get to be immortalised on The SUD too. Here's what you have to do:

    1) Download some of The SUD's html pages and load them into a text editor, say Notepad. Examine my format.

    2) Using these pages as guides, create your own rooms. The only difference is that instead of using a name along the lines of s2.htm or s19a.htm for the pages, use something else like start.htm or puke.htm. It's your site, so you can put just about anything you want in it. Room descriptions are up to you to create, but as much as possible, make it funny. As for NPCs, items and other such stuff, confer with me first, coz I have to decide wether their price suits it, whether I should inclide those items in the shops etc. Quest coding is even more appreciated, but again that has to go through me first. And of course, no personalised area would be complete without a sign telling everyone of who you are. After all, it is YOUR area. Also, explore around The SUD until you find a suitable spot for your area. This would be something like: the starting room(start.htm) is southwest from the candy store(s55.htm).

    3) No vulgarities, no racist remarks, no anti mathematics comments, no insults to other players, no hitting below the belt, no pinching, no scratching etc.

    4) After all that hard work, mail your area to me and you should expect it to be uploaded in a week, unless I get an overwhelming response. Try to keep your own area under 20 KB. If you want more space, you can request for it from me, and I'll see if its reasonable. Don't mail it to me as attached .htm files though. Instead copy and paste the html code in text into the e-mail, then mail it to me.

    5) I reserve the right to make any changes to your area that I feel neccessary, but you will always be informed of it at least 3 days before the upload. What I won't touch would be your name and other personalized touches that blend in with the rest of The SUD, but that's about it. Everything else is subject to my unrelenting gaze. Should you have any strong objections to what I will do, feel free to e-mail me, but any vulgar or offensive remarks will result in termination of your area.

    6) You would probably want to add on to your area, so mail me any updated pages you have, and I'll upload them as usual.

I don't think I should give area coders any special priveleges, because that would be unfair to those who don't know HTML or simply don't have the time to maintain the area. The only great gain is being immortalized on The SUD, and maybe the pleasure of knowing that people appreciate your contribution. If you have any queries on the HTML format of The SUD, do mail them to me.

    Who

Typing in 'who' in many MUDs gives you a list of all players on. SUD goes one step further: it lists all players that play The SUD. Here it is:

    Duh - [email protected]

To add your name to the list, simply mail me your SUD name(your nick used on the SUD) and your email address, preferably your real one. You can choose not to put your email address in, but that its supposed to be a mailing list.

    Message Board

I might implement this in the future. Everyone can 'post' a message on the board for everyone to read and respond to via me. It should work just like a real message board, except that your messages will take a much longer time to appear on it. What's stopping me from doing it now is that I may not be able to maintain it.
